Dawn of Sorrow no contest its easily the best of the three and the best Castlevania overall imo probably in my top 3 DS games ever all of them are great but the only other Castlevania that comes close to Dawn is Aria. Order of Ecclesias very good too but I personally found it a bit too linear. Like the other 16-bit era Castlevania games Castlevania. The areas in the game are fun and are very replayable.

Dawn of Sorrow is the one that plays the most like a typical CV Metroidvania and probably the best to start with from a gameplay perspective but its also a direct sequel to a GBA game so you wont understand the story. Theoretically Id say DAWN OF SORROW has better gameplay than Portrait but Dawn being a sequel might leave open too many questions if you havent played Aria.

OoE is prettier and flashy DoS has the best Castle and IMO the most fun mix and match of special powers despite being grindy PoR doesnt compromise anything it has whips extra SotN retro bosses Hard mode with Lvl caps which unfortunately DoS doesnt offer AND the metroidvania exploration lacking in OoE.
